R.I.P Direk Mario O’ Hara (1944-2012)

Philippine cinema bid farewell to acclaimed filmmaker Mario O’ Hara as the veteran writer, director and actor bowed out earlier this morning from a battle with leukemia.

Despite his departure, Direk Mario leaves with him a legacy of films that will forever be remembered.

Everyone’s favorite hyphenated superhero is back, and is quite possibly the only release of the week.  Economically understandable.

Cinemalaya 2012 Trailer Round Up *UPDATED*

It’s time for another Cinemalaya to start up.  While we’re waiting for the films themselves, enjoy the trailer after the jump - straight from the heart’s of the filmmakers to yours.

It looks like Noranians have their panties all up in a knot with the release of the MMFF’s 2012 line up.

Director Brillante Mendoza’s most recent production, Sa ‘Yong Sinapupunan (Thy Womb) was apparently deemed unfit to be screened in the holiday film festival.

The Metro Manila Film Festival executive committee has recently announced the eight films included in the 2012 line up.

It’s a roster of the usual suspects, but there are a few curious picks that’ll give this year’s festival some much-needed variety.
