‘MNL 143’ Philippine Premiere this Saturday at the UP Cine Adarna

Despite being premiered overseas far sooner than in its native country, Director Emerson ReyesMNL 143 will finally be having its Philippine premiere this Saturday.

Save the date and the book the seats: July 7 at the UP Cine Adarna. The screening is, of course, open to the public.

R.I.P Direk Mario O’ Hara (1944-2012)

Philippine cinema bid farewell to acclaimed filmmaker Mario O’ Hara as the veteran writer, director and actor bowed out earlier this morning from a battle with leukemia.

Despite his departure, Direk Mario leaves with him a legacy of films that will forever be remembered.

It looks like Noranians have their panties all up in a knot with the release of the MMFF’s 2012 line up.

Director Brillante Mendoza’s most recent production, Sa ‘Yong Sinapupunan (Thy Womb) was apparently deemed unfit to be screened in the holiday film festival.

The Metro Manila Film Festival executive committee has recently announced the eight films included in the 2012 line up.

It’s a roster of the usual suspects, but there are a few curious picks that’ll give this year’s festival some much-needed variety.

The highly controversial MNL 143 finally found an audience at its unofficial premiere last Friday night.

The production of the film was initially marred by one of the most talked about controversies in local independent cinema, but the latest surprise in the ongoing saga was that the screening was held in the unlikeliest of places: the CCP.

With the Dark Knight Rises hitting theaters in a little under two months, the wait is getting a bit more painful than we’d like to admit.

But we’ve found another way you can celebrate the caped crusader in an upcoming documentary by filmmaker Brett Culp.

And it has begun.  I’ve always hoped that we’d have some sort of step to make our local conventions emulate the fabled San Diego Comic Con, and looks like it’s happening.  Direk Erik Matti released a study for his film’s comic adaptation.
