Introduced last year to entice more seasoned directors to enjoy the pleasures of movie-making without sacrificing their creativity and vision, the Directors Showcase this year features four films whose stories are as varied as the backgrounds of their directors.
Check out the directors and their showcases after the jump:
The interstices of fate and the poetics of dance. The interior lives of upstart filmmakers and drug mules. The often messy and also often wondrous dynamics of birth and family and young love. Coming of age and coming to grief.
Having a hard time with the text only schedule? You’re not the only one. So since we’re such nice

“Making Sense and Cents of Emerging Cinema” is the theme of the 2011 Manila Film Financing Forum, organized by the Philippine Independent Filmmakers Multi-purpose Cooperative (IFC) and the Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival. The event will be held on July 17, 2011, from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. at the Silangan Hall of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
It was the strangest of nights. The Cultural Center of the Philippines, home of the finer arts and hence an edifice that most of Manila avoided, was for that one strange night more jam-packed than a sports bar on a Pacquiao fight morning.
Find out why after the jump.
Don’t know anything about Cinemalaya? The dates? The tickets? The movies? The venues? The schedule?
Don’t worry. We’ve compiled this Cinemalaya F.A.Q out of some real world questions we’ve been getting about the festival. And here are the real world answers.

Cinemalaya breaks opens the champagne (or buko juice, depending on how you see it) later tonight at the CCP. And Lagarsita.com will be posting in-depth coverage for all ten days of the festival.
So thank God we
stole were given Media badges ‘cause we’re covering Cinemalaya 2011!
Remakes are a tricky business. It’s nearly impossible to divorce it from the original.
Here’s five films, though great in themselves, might benefit from a second look. And this time, maybe with a different set of eyes.
