5ive Local Spoofs You Can Sue for Cash Money

Spoofs and parodies flirt with copyright infringement once in a while.  Other times, they not only flirt with it, they’ve gotten it drunk AND knocked it up. When they do that, we can sue them for the big bucks.

Talon na para yumaman.

The spoof is a grand tradition in Philippine Cinema, dating back to the early days of our industry.  From Zatoichi, The Magnificent Seven, The Big Boss to Titanic; all major western productions have always been spoofed in some way.  Even if the whole movie isn’t built around a spoof, you’d be hard pressed to find a comedy that doesn’t have a scene that lampoons a popular cinematic trend.

For your moneymaking pleasure, we’ve assembled the 5ive Local Spoofs You Can Sue for Cash Money. They are ranked in order of video availability on youtube how likely a Copyright Infringement case against them would succeed.

5. The Long Ranger and Tonton Series
Lawsuit Success: 0.5%

Joey De Leon and Rene Requiestas play the titular characters in this send up of The Lone Ranger.  You can’t sue anyone for looking like a Native American, but you can sure as hell sue a guy for looking like the Lone Ranger.

4. Bobocop
Lawsuit Success: 20%

The Joey Marquez movie where an inept cop gets gunned down and rebuilt as a cybernetic force for justice.  Okay, so he just gets a robotic arm, but the narrative is pretty close to Robocop.  It’s called Bobocop! That counts for something. Probably.

3. She-Man Mistress of the Universe
Lawsuit Sucess:40%

Now we’re talking. An obvious send up of the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon.  The costume is pretty close and the villain is definitely Skeletor (even if he wasn’t even in She-Ra). This is much closer to the source material. If the source material was about magical cross-dressing.

2. Hee-Man: Master of None
Lawsuit Sucess: 70%

The late Redford White’s fantasy epic. If I saw anyone dressed like this, I’d say He-Man for sure.  It even phonetically sounds like He-Man no matter how you fucking spell it!

Then there’s this:

1. Alyas Batman en Robin
Lawsuit Success: 100%

Tawagin na ang buong barangay.

It can’t get any more clear cut than this: from the likeness, to the bat computer, to the batmobile, to the Joker; it’s easy pickings for this movie. In fact, that bootleg versions of the movie have made their way to american comic conventions. This is a sure win! Kaching$$$.

There you have it.  5ive Local Spoofs You Can Sue for Cash Money.  If you learn anything from this article let it be:

1. The power of comedy trumps every law, ever.
2. I’d make a horrible, horrible lawyer.
3. Always end with a musical number.
