This year’s Cinemalaya does not only feature films made in Manila. It also reaches out to films made in the regions, which also deserve exposure to many audience members, as they present a way of life and culture that we don’t usually see in movies set in the cities.
A section of the festival called Regional Showcase includes award-winning entries from the Sinulog Short Film Festival and the Gawad CCP for Alternative Film and Video.
Featured are films about the journey of an overseas Filipino worker, a strange science-fiction tale, and a touching family story that cherishes the importance of traditional values. The short films included in the Regional Showcase are some of the big winners at the Sinulog Short Film Festival and Mapua Film Festival: Biyahe by Peter Ian Mancao and Angelo Agojo; Regenesis by Aldo Nelbert Banaynal; Ukit by John Anthony Imson; and Anniversary by Austin Guzman.
Completing the showcase are the other winners at the Sinulog Festival and Gawad CCP.
