‘Born to Love You’ Trailer Pairs an Awkward Angeline Quinto and Coco Martin

I’ll be the first to admit that casting isn’t one my strong suites. But even I’m not naïve enough to think that Direk Jerome Pobocan’s upcoming Born to Love You doesn’t have one of the most awkward romantic pairings I’ve ever seen.

Unless you’re into incestual romance. Because that’s the vibe I’m getting from stars Angeline Quinto and Coco Martin.

It’s not that Quinto and Martin are definitively bad actors in the trailer. It’s just that their constant bickering and forced romantic tension does seem like that of a brother and sister with a weird, awkward boner for each other.

If the two had any less chemistry, I’d probably ask for a refund just for watching the trailer.

Angeline Quinto has definitely proven herself to be a more than capable singer after winning last year’s Star Power. But she still has a long way to go in terms of earning the limelight alongside Coco Martin.

I’m surprised Star Cinema didn’t first try her out as a “best friend”. Launching her as a lead seems a bit gutsy even by Star Cinema standards. But Star Cinema isn’t betting the house on Born to Love You. The film is a co-production between Star Cinema and Cinemedia.

Direk Jerome Pobocan definitely has his work cut out for him in making this pairing work. But maybe Star Cinema’s just throwing money at the screen in hopes that their pesos will turn into gold.

I do enjoy seeing some fresh new faces on the big screen though. So I’m hoping Direk Jerome can surprise me when Born to Love You opens later this month.
