Despite being premiered overseas far sooner than in its native country, Director Emerson Reyes’ MNL 143 will finally be having its Philippine premiere this Saturday.
Save the date and the book the seats: July 7 at the UP Cine Adarna. The screening is, of course, open to the public.
From the official press release:
Filipino independent film MNL 143 opens up its Philippine premiere after a successful world premiere at the recently held Edinburgh Film Festival last June. The one-time screening is on July 7, 2012 (Saturday), 7PM at the University of the Philippines Cine Adarna.
The film is directed by Emerson Reyes, whose short film “Walang Katapusang Kuwarto” bagged several awards at last year’s Cinemalaya film competition. MNL 143 is Reyes’ first feature length work in collaboration with independent filmmakers and producers who believe in his story material.
MNL 143 is supposedly part of the new breed finalists for the upcoming Cinemalaya on July but due to casting preference of the screening committee, it was disqualified from the rosters of competing films.
Friends and family supported Reyes to finish the film and with the help of a number of film studios, MNL 143 made the cut for the Edinburgh International Film Festival where it was invited to have its world premiere on June 20, 2012 in Scotland.
Although a school tour has been mentioned, there’s no official word on when MNL 143 will be screened next. For those aiming to catch a screening of the film, this might be your one and only chance. The premiere will also launch the film’s original soundtrack, which includes tracks from Jensen Gomez, Peryodiko, Carlos Castano, Rya Petines & Ling Lava, Boogie Romero, Fando and Lis, Archievals and Dalisay Cortes.
The one-time screening starts at exactly 7PM, with tickets priced at P100.00. For purchasing and ticket reservation, please contact the following numbers (which we suggest you do, if you’re looking to get a seat):
