Releases of The Week - President Licoln and Theatre

Since there is, to our knowledge, only one movie opening this week, we decided to class up the column with a dose of theatre.  Before you cry foul, hear us out.

The Releases of the Week after the jump.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

The title is pretty much self explanatory, and we’re always down for crazy cross-genre mash-ups, but the fact that Lincoln himself, Benjamin Walker, plays this one so deadly serious is cause for excitement because let’s face it, that spells out more fun for us.  Directed by Timur Bekmambetov of Wanted fame.

Special Theatre Edition

While we’re also big fans of theatre, in the venn diagram sense of things theater and film never intersected-until now.  With Virgin Labfest 8, currently ongoing, you can see plays directed by, uh directors, Erik Matti and Emman De La Cruz.  Directing for the stage and film are two different things, and it’ll be anice exercise to see how these two handle the change in medium.  The Virgin Labfest is, to quote the site “a festival of new plays (untried, untested, unpublished and unstaged) by emerging and well-known playwrights to be held from June 27 to July 18, 2012 at the CCP Tanghalang Huseng Batute with 3pm and 8pm shows. Virgin Labfest is a project of the CCP in cooperation with the Writer’s Bloc, Inc. and Tanghalang Pilipino.

This is the last week for the run July 7, 8pm and July 8, 3pm for Direk Erik’s while it’s July 4, 3pm and July 6 8pm for Direk Emman’s, so pick a date for some culture!
