Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles Gets Comic Book Adaptation in Time for Philippine Komikon

And it has begun.  I’ve always hoped that we’d have some sort of step to make our local conventions emulate the fabled San Diego Comic Con, and looks like it’s happening.  Direk Erik Matti released a study for his film’s comic adaptation.

Direk Erik Matti’s latest, Tiktik: The Aswang Chronicles is a green screen heavy action adventure featuring the veteran director’s take on the Aswang myth.  From the initial buzz surrounding the film and with Trese co-creator Budjette Tan involved it looks to be a pretty smooth transition to the comic medium.

The image, with art by James Palabay, was teased on Matti’s facebook:

A study for the cover of our comic book adaptation of our all green screen movie, “Tiktik, The Aswang Chronicles.” I’m so proud to have a comic book! Reality Entertainment releases this May 26 at the Philippine Komikon. See You There! Thanks Budjette Tan and James Palabay of Digital Art Chefs!

This model of promotion is a step in the right direction for genre films like these.  In the Venn diagram scheme of things, the fans at comic conventions would appreciate this kind of press instead of the usual hotel press conferences.  Don’t be surprised if the cast and crew make an appearance at the convention for some Q and A.
